These two things make me really happy.

Sorry for the small photo. Featured here, on Daily Candy.

re-blog

My friend, Marisa, posted this video as her Friday Flicks feature today (she's also got Tuesday Tunes, which are worth checking out), and this was too funny for me to not pass along.

Happy weekend, folks.

it's friday

and this post is full of randoms:

Tuesday night, Jamie and I headed to a college ministry we're going to be getting involved in this fall. Should have checked the calendar, cause we were the only ones there! So, the husband spontaneously decided to take me to Souper Jenny's. I've been dying to go for a while, and it was great. But, in my opinion, slightly overrated. Think I'll give it a go for lunch sometime, as that seems to be where all the buzz comes from.

Then he wanted to take a drive down Peachtree Street. Summer night, with the windows down. Quintessential Atlanta night.

This is the husband at the end of the date. Who requested that we make a special trip to Burger King to get a slice of their Hershey Pie. Not to share. For him, alone. This is the same husband who once told me (way back when we were just friends) that he didn't like sweets very much. And that he now blames me for his sweet tooth. One day I will dedicate an entire post to that statement, because it's just too funny.

When we were leaving Augusta this past weekend, mama handed me a vase filled with hydrangeas! They are my favorite, and mom has them growing in abundance all over her yard. They've been gracing our house all week long, and I'm really hoping they'll dry nicely so I can keep them around. (It's the little things, right?)

Tomorrow is lake day to celebrate a birthday. And it's supposed to rain all weekend. Boo. Although a trip to a lake house on a rainy day does give the best excuse to lounge and relax!

And if the weather holds up tonight, we're
going to see Jack Johnson at Lakewood! Can I get a yessir?! Jamie and I both heart JJ big time. I mean, so much so that we danced to his song Better Together as our first dance as husband and wife! Little sister is in town for it, so let's hope the rain goes away!

This picture is of some of our favorite friends when we went to see Jack exactly two years ago this August.

T minus 2.08 hours...happy weekend!

j-e-l-l-o

I've had the strangest cravings lately for the creamy, sweet taste of Jell-O instant pudding AND for the cold, almost gummy flavor of Jell-O gelatin. Not really sure where it came from, but if I have to be honest...I forgot how good it is! I was trying to think of the theme song earlier, and started googling old Jell-O commercials. Hilarious! [Sidenote: If you ever get bored, I highly recommend checking out old commercials...for any product. So funny!] So I leave you with one of the oldest ones I could find, one with Bill Cosby, and then the most recent. It's amazing how marketing has changed over the years!

piece by piece

As I've mentioned over and over, I feel like our home is slowly coming together - piece by piece. The mad move-in rush that we experienced early on has definitely slowed down, and now we take it one project (or two) at a time, as we're able. That's part of the reason I've only included pictures of our living room, which was our first "completed" project. Now, 8 months later, I reveal to you...the dining room!

Before the photos, tho, I need to give one big shout out to a great friend of Jamie and I - Mr. Aaron Harris!! Aaron is a super talented lawyer, artist, and friend (so many gifts for one person!). The preview that I gave you earlier was of a painting that Ernie, as we affectionately call him, created and gave to us as a wedding present. It is one of our favorite things in the home, and is displayed in a place where we spend so much of our time. Thank you, Ernie, for such an amazing gift!

Isn't it beautiful?! The story behind it: it represents the idea in marriage that two become one. We start out as
two individuals (characterized by the distinct colors and brushstrokes), and marriage makes us one.
And as the years go on (as you move down the painting) we continue to become more and more one and the same,
while still maintaing our individuality and sense of self. He also painted it upside down so that, when displayed,
the paint drips would appear to be going upward - as all marriages should point upward, to God.

Painting + Light fixture = completed dining room!

Now come join us for dinner!!

[One day I will own a nice camera and learn how to best work with the light I have. Forgive me, as these pictures do not do the piece justice!]

roll tid

[to steal a line from yesterday's post...] if you really knew me, you'd know i was a full-blooded Auburn fan. war eagle, baby! and that's why i found this so incredibly awesome.
you can find the article in the AJC, titled 'Bama mispells 'Mississippi' on football tickets.

and just because this is so incredibly out of character for me that i have to write it down, this is what i've eaten today - a bowl of smart start, a chocolate covered krispy kreme donut, a bag of bbq potato chips, and some cheese and crackers. did i mention we're planning on chick-fil-a for dinner? oops.

and before i forget...guess what is going on this weekend? my 10 YEAR HIGH SCHOOL REUNION! yessir. so i leave you with this for your viewing pleasure (the only picture i could find of myself on the internet from high school).

The ARC Lady Musketeers basketball team
we were the 1996 state champions - totally legit
can you pick me out?

confession: the husband LOVES reality tv shows

[guess that wasn't a true confession, since i was telling it on behalf of someone else. woops]

personal confession: i can't watch most of 'em. it has something to do with the fact that it is always. such. trash. and it makes me disappointed in our culture and society that we actually make these people famous (ex. Snooki). seriously?! but it probably has more to do with the fact that once i start, i am hooked (ex. the Bachelorette). dangit.

so it was totally out of character when i landed on MTV last night while it was my turn at the remote (yes, people, we actually have to take turns...having only one t.v. will do that). in case you've lived in a box for the past 20 years, mtv is notorious for their reality shows. but here's a news flash...

I THINK I ACTUALLY FOUND A DECENT REALITY TV SHOW!
[other than extreme makover]

if you really knew me is a show that spotlights a handful of teenage high school students, each from a different group (jocks, populars, nerds, outcasts, emos, cheerleaders, etc) as they, along with their classmates, go through what's intended to be a life-changing experience called the Challenge Day, which focuses on breaking down the walls. i was totally in tears!

and it worked!!
i am in LOVE!

Jamie's "Master Burger"

Lately, the Food Network has become one of my favorite channels. I love it all...cooking shows, competitions, etc. Yesterday Jamie and I were watching an episode of a restaurant that specializes in hamburgers. When he saw the fried egg they added on top, he knew what he wanted for lunch. He ran to the grocery, and this is what he whipped up -

Hamburger seasoned with salt & pepper, topped with (are you ready?)
pepper jack cheese, guacamole, tomato slice, fried egg, dollop of
mayonnaise, and bacon, on a whole wheat bun, served with grilled corn

Open wide.

Needless to say, we didn't eat dinner.

preview

Jamie and I have some seriously talented friends, and one of them just brought us our wedding gift last night. I've included a preview, but will wait to reveal the whole thing once we've worked out how to hang it (and I can figure out how to work the lighting so that the picture actually does it justice!).

On another note, we're just filling our weekend with more projects. Still trying to figure out what color to stain the door, hanging light fixtures (SO excited to show y'all the final product once our dining room fixture is hung...I LOVE it! And it just so happens that is where our new gift will hang as well...it's coming together. Yay!), and trying to figure out what to do with a moldy crawl space and all the things we have stored down there. That last one somewhat depresses me.

But on a happier note, our boss gave us some extra holidays this summer, and tomorrow is one of them. I'm going to wake up at 8am, sip coffee on the front porch, watch the Today Show, go to a long lunch, and then get a start on the list.

Happy weekend!
