This City

This past weekend I surprised Jamie with a "staycation" at the W Hotel in Midtown.  It was my gift to him for his birthday, but it also served as a great weekend for us to spend some time focusing on each other - uninterrupted, no time constraint.

The only rule for the weekend was that we couldn't drive anywhere.  Perfect opportunity to re-discover Midtown-Atlanta.   We walked to dinner both nights, Starbucks in the morning.  Spent hours both days wondering throughout Piedmont Park, and through the surrounding neighborhoods.  Had a picnic on Saturday for lunch - amazing weather!!  Lounged at the pool.  Even managed to get in a quick workout (of course, thanks to the husband).

But I think my favorite part of the weekend was...the sunrise.  Each of the W Hotels in Atlanta (I believe) has floor to ceiling windows.  Our view was of Piedmont Park and a few of the buildings that make up Midtown, and we kept the drapes open each night because the view was so amazing.  Unfortunately (on most occasions), I have a bad habit of waking up at least once or twice a night to use the restroom.  However, this weekend, it turned out to be the perfect opportunity to catch a glimpse of one of God's greatest gifts.

Sunrise.

Combined with the feeling of being in the city, and then watching the sun rise over this city - my home, the place I will raise my family, the city I share with my husband and friends and various family members - it reminded me to pray.  And this song was on repeat, playing in my mind -

God of this City
Chris Tomlin

you're the God of this city
you're the King of these people
you're the Lord of this nation
You are

you're the Light in this darkness
you're the Hope to the hopeless
you're the Peace to the restless
You are

for there is no one like our God
there is no one like our God

for greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done
in this city
greater things have yet to come
greater things are still to be done here

you're the Lord of creation
the Creator of all things
you're the King above all kings
You are

you're the Strength in our weakness
you're the Love to the broken
you're the Joy to the sadness
You are.

for there is no one like our God
there is no one like our God

for greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done
in this city
when glory shines from hearts alive
with praise for You and love for You
in this city

for greater things have yet to come
and greater things are still to be done
in this city
greater things have yet to come
greater things are still to be done here

My two favorite YouTube versions of the song -
